This ground-breaking IPRT research report (2012) was the first of its kind to detail the rights, needs and experiences of families and children of prisoners. It follows extensive consultations with children, families, support services and the relevant agencies. It includes the voices of the families and children, voices that are rarely heard.
“There was no way on earth was I going to tell my daughter where her Dad was. And then as the weeks went on, I kinda realised it was probably better to be honest with her. I just shattered her world in basically five minutes, picking up the pieces now since, but I was kind of unsure whether she had an idea or not. I told her then and she had no idea. It’s all questions at the moment.”
The report can be accessed on the IPRT website here.
This report was supported by the St Stephen’s Green Trust.
